Vitamin D

Vitamin D is a great addition to your cold and flu prevention plan. Evidence to date confirms Vitamin D’s ability to stimulate the immune system.

It is a unique vitamin that can be synthesized by the body after exposure to sunlight and helps the body use calcium to maintain strong bones and teeth. Supplementing during Fall and Winter is a great way to keep healthy Vitamin D levels. Natural sources of vitamin D are found in fatty fish, egg yolks and organic milk.

Vitamin D deficiency can cause rickets in children and osteomalacia or osteoporosis in adults. Doses recommended by Health Canada range between 400 IU and 4000 IU depending on age and nutritional status. It is important to check with your doctor about the right amounts for you.
